Description

LEITAT is a Spanish technological center specialized in production technologies and develops R&D activities in the areas of biomedicine, biotechnologies, environment, surface treatments, material science, nanotechnology and renewable energies with deep knowledge and experience in technological transfers to several industrial sectors.

LEITAT takes part in many projects financed by the regional and national governments, participates in collaborative projects and develops private R&D projects funded by industrial partners. The Health & Biomedicine Business Unit of LEITAT provides the next services and collaborations in therapy and diagnosis for oncologic, inflammatory, autoimmune and angiogenic diseases.


Role

LEITAT coordinates GLAM in all aspects of project management, including administrative, legal and financial matters, to ensure a smooth project implementation. LEITAT is responsible of project monitoring, progress management, and decision making. LEITAT facilitates the project workflow in general, stimulate interaction between the different project management bodies, and assume the role of a liaison between the project consortium and the European Commission. Last, LEITAT leads the work package for the development of biomarkers, biological tools (mAbs) and biological samples and is responsible for other tasks in cooperation with its partners.

Description

The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia conducts excellent interdisciplinary research at the frontiers of engineering and life sciences in order to generate new knowledge by putting together fields like nanomedicine, biophysics, biotechnology, tissue engineering and the applications of health information technology. IBEC concentrates on how to advance the frontiers of knowledge in experimental science to benefit clinical and biomedical research. The common denominator shared by these new initiatives is their focus on the enormous challenge of how to make life science quantitative on any scale, taking full advantage of the unprecedented power of the convergence between nano, bio and ICT.


Role

IBEC is participating in various tasks including the micro-ring design and chemical functionalisation of the micro-ring, taking into account the selectivity, as well as establishing the specifications for the detection of bio-markers. Also, IBEC contributes to the fabrication of multiplexed micro-ring resonator arrays and chip packaging. Last, IBEC ensures coherent external communication of the project and its results towards relevant target groups.

Description

The MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology of the University of Twente is is one of the largest nanotechnology research institutes in the world, delivering competitive and high-quality research. The Institute is recognized worldwide for the high quality of its researchers. Within the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology, research is focused on materials science, lab-on-a-chip technology, nanophotonics, nanoelectronics and nanofluidics via a multidisciplinary collaboration across groups. Within the MESA+, the Integrated Optical Systems (IOS) group of the Optical Sciences Chair focuses on the development of novel active devices integrated onto passive photonics platforms with applications in optical sensing, spectroscopy and telecom and datacoms.


Role

The Institute is involved in the design phase of the dual microring lasers, on the development of the fabrication processes, as well as in the characterization of the devices. Also, the Institute leads the design and fabrication of the multiplexed dual-microring laser arrays. It will ensure an efficient exchange of requirements between the device designers and packaging partner to arrive to an optimized prototype solution in the least amount of iterations.

Description

WizSoft is a privately owned software company located in Tel-Aviv, Israel, developing data-mining algorithms, broad rule discovery and verification techniques, knowledge management and text-mining tools. These tools are used in business as well as in Medical, biological, chemical, physical and engineering research & applications. Relevant tools in GLAM are: WizWhy, WizRule and even WizDoc. WizWhy, for example, is a patented data-mining algorithm for analysing data and issuing predictions. The algorithm was applied successfully to Neuronal bio-markers analysis, structural biology, molecular profiling, Nano-wire building blocks screening, toxicity analysis, clinical data analysis, predictive medicine as well as environmental issues.


Role

WizSoft utilizes various analytical, data mining and rule discovery tools to support and optimize the selection of biomarkers and epitopes. Also, WizSoft will provide the ongoing full data analysis, modelling and features extraction support including risk and toxicity analysis and mitigation. Last, it will provide the modelling support, statistical data analysis for toxicity assessment translated to knowledge and evaluation processes.

Description

The main field of application of the research done in the Optique Nonlinéaire Théorique (ONT) Group of the ULB is optics, but we also study problems in biology, ecology, mechanics and chemistry. One of our specificities is the pursuit of analytical results, notably through asymptotic methods. We are also active in building mathematical models for optical systems. Current/recent research themes are Quantum Dots/Dashes and their application in optoelectronics – Semiconductor lasers – Laser mode locking: modelling and stability – Transverse nonlinear effects: optical structures in space or time, localized states and dissipative solutions – Delayed dynamical systems in physics, biology and chemistry and more.


Role

The ONT group participates in the theoretical modelling of the optical device – general design and parameter selection. To this end, a mathematical model of the micro-laser and the waveguide on a chip is being derived. Particular attention is paid on laser frequency and laser line width as a function of geometrical and dielectric parameters and how they are perturbed by the adsorption of molecules on the surface of the laser.

The Institute of Photonic Sciences was launched with the mission to become a world-leading research center in Photonics. ICFO currently hosts more than 250 researchers organized in 23 research groups working in 60 state-of-the-art research laboratories, equipped with the latest experimental facilities and supported by a range of cutting-edge facilities for nanofabrication, characterization, imaging and engineering. On the industrial side, ICFO participates actively in the ETP Photonics21 and is also very proactive in fostering entrepreneurial activities and spin-off creation. ICFO hosts an active Corporate Liaison Program that aims at creating collaborations and links between industry and ICFO researchers.


Role

In collaboration with IBEC and ULB, the ICFO designs and implements dual-microring on silicon substrate, takes care of the optical characterization, and tests the device as sensing biomarkers of the dual-microring and waveguide couplers. ICFO will also have a minor role in testing the optical device developed.

Role

NovelIC is involved in the electronic system designs, including architecture of the hardware device, signal processing algorithms and embedded software for disposable and non-disposable parts of the GLAM system. Apart from that, NovelIC is involved in the GLAM IP protection and initial marketing activities.

Description

Optocap Ltd is an Assembly and Packaging company for Microelectronic and Optoelectronic devices based in the UK. Optocap utilises its technology and process know-how in a wide variety of optoelectronic and microelectronic platforms including flip chip assembly, system-in-package assembly, RF assembly, high power laser diode assembly and fiber coupling of optoelectronic devices.


Role

Optocap will be responsible for the package design and assembly of the photonic devices. This will involve design of the packages and components including thermal, mechanical and optical design activities and development of precision assembly processes. Due to the need of a specific match between the cartridge and the eReader, a fine alignment of both parts of the final GLAM device will be designed and incorporated.

Description

The Radboud University Medical Center (Department of Urology) is a large academic medical center with a tertiary referral function for approximately 3 million people. The prime directive of Radboudumc is to make a significant impact on healthcare, hence bridging of molecular- and health sciences research to clinical practice is in the focus of our research themes. Urological cancers is a research theme comprised of approximately 130 scientists, including clinician scientists, 10 full professors and 20 PIs.


Role

Urology Radboudumc brings its expertise in the utility of biomarkers in GU oncology, particularly bladder cancer. Furthermore, they are standardizing pre-analytical procedures specicifcall for the GLAM device developed in the project. Protocols for clinical studies with patients are established and submitted for IRB approval. Subsequently patients are recruited and samples are biobanked.
